Mentor: Paluck Kohli (she/her)

Paluck was born and raised in New Delhi, India and moved to Turtle Island 6 years ago. As a newcomer she was deeply curious about the history of the land and immersed herself in learning more about indigenous people, their ways of knowing and ways of being. She currently works as a Manager, Indigenous Relations at City of Vancouver, driving outcomes measurement for United Nations Rights for Indigenous Peoples at the municipal level.

She has a deep passion for community-rooted measurement and in her previous role, she worked as an impact measurement specialist with Social Innovation Canada on a UNSDG project in partnership with CCEDNet, Common Approach & CSI. She co-led the revamp of CSI Impact Dashboard and supported over 750 social purpose organizations to track their impact, define unique metrics and communicate their stories. Previously, she has held intersectional experience across climate action work; EDI and Indigeneity knowledge; business consulting as well as fintech industry. She finds home in the open water and has been a lifelong spiritual seeker.

Mentor: Skye Noh (she/her)

Skye is a climate justice advocate with a passion for using capital flows to make a positive impact. In the past, she has served as a Canada 150 youth delegate, a COP27 delegate, and a former Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalist in 2018.

Skye is currently a Junior Associate, Private Investment Research at Rally Assets and also Realize Capital Partners, one of the three wholesalers of the national Social Finance Fund.

Mentor: Mackenzie Kuenz (she/her)

Mackenzie (she/her) grew up on Tsuut’ina and W̱SÁNEĆ territories and now lives on the traditional and stolen territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nations. She studied an interdisciplinary Bsc degree specializing in Climate Justice and Resilient Communities with a regional focus in Latin America at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Universidade Federal da Bahia, and Universidade Federal Fluminense.

Mackenzie is passionate about education and empowering youth to create innovative solutions and initiatives that challenge the status quo and harmful systems. She is the CityShapers in Communities Coordinator where she delivers workshops to youth community groups helping them understand how our cities and systems work and how youth can shape cities. She is also the co-founder and co-director of Ritmos Climáticos an organization mobilizing culture for climate justice through events, campaigns, and a digital community. She loves her community and dancing.

Mentor: Charlotte Liu (she/her)

I started at the City in 2023 as a Planning Assistant III in Community Transportation within Engineering Services where I supported public and stakeholder engagement on transportation planning and design projects. Much of my work focused on developing community engagement through neighborhood traffic management and active mobility programs. In my current role as Planning Analyst in Sustainability, I work on the City's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy to better understand how the City can adjust to the current and future impacts of climate change to increase resilience with the goal of managing the unavoidable effects of climate change that are already happening or expected in the future.

Mentor: Kevin Krenz (he/him)

My company works in renewable energy, designing solar, wind, and battery storage sites that provide clean energy to homes and businesses. Each project has specific requirements from both the owners and the utility companies that distribute the energy. My job is to keep these projects on track—making sure they stay on schedule, within budget, and meet everyone's expectations. I coordinate engineers, communicate with clients, and solve problems every day. Simply put, I’m the bridge between the technical experts designing the energy systems and the people making the projects happen.

Mentor: Kaylie Higgs (she/they)

Kaylie Higgs (she/they) is a Project Lead with the Mental Health and Climate Change Alliance. In this role, Kaylie coordinates a project on building resilience to the mental health impacts of climate change in BC. This involves a combination of connecting with community, researching, writing, planning events, facilitating workshops, and creating resources.

They hold an MPhil in Anthropocene Studies from U of Cambridge, BSc in Global Resource Systems from UBC, and AA in Global Stewardship from Capilano U. Kaylie cares deeply about the world and climate justice, and strives to support sustainable communities and wellbeing for people and planet.

Mentor: Cait Murphy (she/her)

Cait is a settler of Irish and Dutch descent. She worked in a California regional government sustainability office and two sustainability-focused nonprofits before her current position at UBC. In her Regional and International Engagement role she connects UBC community members with partners and initiatives off-campus to further reciprocal learning and provide alignment with key local and global sustainability initiatives. This includes coordinating the UBC delegation to the annual UN climate conference (COP), contributing to the Sustainable Workforce Coalition (just transition related) in Metro Vancouver, working on a Climate Action Planning micro-certificate for professionals, and hosting authors through UBC Reads Sustainability.
